I have finally made the last cup of Caro from the container I bought last summer. Yes, it was a little old and dried out, but it still dissolved and it tastes fine. Those of you who know Caro may be thinking, it NEVER tastes fine; but I love it and depend on it during the winter. It keeps me from drinking coffee, and really you can only drink so much herbal tea, so Caro it is. The problem is that it's awfully pricey to buy it here in the States, so I bring back a big ol' jar each time I'm in Germany. I asked Andrew to look for it while he was in Amsterdam, but I'm betting he wasn't able to find any ("That's really more of a German thing," meinte der Gastbruder Jan). Anyway, I'm not getting my hopes up and am preparing to go to Central Market and slap down a fiver for a teeny little glass jar of the stuff.

I don't know about Caro, but can appreciate your need for it. Herbal tea only does so much … My grandfather, who had been demoted from coffee to Postum (is that like Caro?) in his later years, though, always said that drinking the stuff was like "kissing your sister." Not quite as exciting as the real thing.

It's pretty similar to Postum; both have chicory and grains of various sorts. My dad drank Postum when i was a kid, I'm not sure why. He also drank coffee, but not in the early morning. I've been meaning to try it again since it's a wee bit cheaper than Caro--but stupid Randall's wants 4.50 for it, so it hardly seems worth it to switch.

well, it really shouldn't be too much of a problem to ask someone to send you your personal care package, should it?
ask me, for example... ;-)

That's very sweet! Of course I'd love it. I could reciprocate with some fine US food product, whatever that might be...And it wasn't so bad not getting the Caro from A'dam because I _did_ get stroopwafel en advocaat! : )
(admitting to loving all of these foods/drinks makes me feel like an old person)

This is so nice...I've already been thinking about how great it's been to develop long-distance friendships through blogs, but this is just that much better. You guys are excellent.
