So. The Modest Mouse set yesterday was bad, partly because of poor sound quality and in part (mostly) because of the lame-o crowd. Once the band had played their Big Hit everyone kind of lost interest, and the band didn't seem to want to win anyone over. It was sad. I hope their show at Stubbs last night was better; you'd think that Austin would be a big chunk of their fan base (and in fact the Stubbs show was sold out).
Anyway, Los Amigos Invisibles were suitably funky; Trey Anastasio was just as indecipherable as I had expected; the Pixies were grim and fun, authentic to my ears, but then they're the one band that slipped under my radar when everyone was listening to them, so I'm not the best judge.
The big news was that since we couldn't find any floppy hats to buy, we permitted ourselves a Four Dollar Beer. Ack. It was sort of worth it; we weren't as exhausted as the previous night.
Today it's The Roots, who unfortunately force us to go down to the show several hours earlier than we would otherwise. Then we have a few hours off and might go swimmin' at Barton Springs, if we can stand to carry towels. [we've decided not to do this; seems more prudent to save some strength. So lame.] Later Wilco, Cake, Drive-by Truckers, and Ben Harper. Maybe David Garza if we can get over to hear him. I think I can make it. My knees can take one more 8-hour stint of standing around.
